The Sustainable Precincts tool evaluates large scale development projects at a precincts / neighbourhoods scale. Unlike the other Green Star tools, the emphasis is on the site wide issues rather than building specific issues. The tool rates the planning, design and construction of a precinct only and it does not rate specific buildings or assess its operation.
How Does this Tool Work
This tool has been developed to influence and incentivise developers to consider good design, community and environmental outcomes. Master planned developments need to use this tool early on in the development to encourage best practice.
The categories considered in this tool are:
- Governance
- Livability
- Economic Prosperity
- Environment
Credits within the tool assist in site selection, site analysis and site layout and includes benchmarks for engaging with stakeholders in site planning. Site-wide green infrastructure (both hard and soft) works are also encouraged. It is only after these site-wide issues are addressed that individual sites and buildings are developed, and this is where the new build Green Star tools for new buildings can be used.
