Green Star Retail Centre v1

For the assessment of new commercial retail centres as well as major base building refurbishments of existing retail centre facilities across South Africa.

Retail centres included in the Green Star SA tool are shopping centres with common mall areas and shared building infrastructure among tenancies. Two certifications are awarded through this tool:

• Green Star – Retail Centre Design at the end of the design phase.
• Green Star  – Retail Centre As Built following construction completion.

The tool assigns a Green Star SA rating to the base building and its services on the basis of design potential and does not examine in-use data or operational management. Tenant fit-outs are not rated under this tool.

Getting started with this tool.

The resources provided in the related downloads section of this page will help you get started with rating your project.

First, make sure the building will be able to meet the eligibility criteria as listed below and further explained in the eligibility Criteria download.

1. Spatial Differentiation

2. Space Use

3. Conditional Requirements

4. Timing of certification

Then get hold of the technical manual and then work through the credits with the project team, selecting the credits best suited to the building owners target, budget and building design.

Registration Process

Once you have selected the tool and met the criteria you need to register your project via GBCSA Certification Engine. You will need to create a new profile if you do not have an existing one. Your account is valid for a 12 month period from activation to close out / final results.

In order to register the project you will need all the project and client details. A draft pro-forma invoice will then be generated and sent to the client & AP for verification. This is followed up by an official pro-forma invoice.

All further information is then channeled through the certification engine and the assigned GBCSA case manager for your project.

Once payment has been received and a signed certification agreement been uploaded to the engine, the project is considered fully registered and can be marketed as “aiming to achieve x stars”.
