North West Strengthens Commitment to Green Building with Green Star Training from the GBCSA Academy

March 19, 2024

The GBCSA Academy was proud to present Green Star New Buildings and Major Refurbishment training to 13 officials from the North West Provincial Government  Department of Public Works and Roads.

The training programme provides an inclusive and practical overview of the Green Star rating system for Design and As Built tools for the objective measurement and rating of the environmental performance of new buildings and major refurbishments. It also provides insight into all major aspects of environmental sustainability that should be considered in the design and construction of green buildings.

The GBCSA training was presented by our in-house Advocacy, Public Policy & Sustainability Specialist and Accredited Professional, Bakang Moeng. All 13 training participants passed the final assignment and were awarded their Certificate: Green Star New Builds Accredited Professionals.

“The training was very informative and conducive to learning through interaction. The commitment from the Green Building Council towards the success of the training is remarkable. The GBCSA Head Office and training facilitator showed commitment and focus to enable our diverse team of officials to get a common understanding through the learning materials and interactive sessions. We had expectations and questions, but as of now, we are well-informed about the critical strategic, administrative and technical approaches relevant to us after the training workshop. We can confidently conclude that the training workshop was a success due to commitments by stakeholders and instructions and the skills (interpersonal communication, organisation, leadership, participation encouragement, empathy) of the Facilitator,” said Pelasia Buzuzi, Chief Architect – Building Infrastructure for the Department.

The Department shared its long-term vision, the objective being to ensure all building projects comply with certain aspects of green building (natural lighting, natural ventilation, water, energy, land use & ecology, innovation and emissions). The end goal is to eventually get their new and existing buildings certified with the Green Star Certification Tool. They also have plans to develop and adopt a Provincial Green Building Policy.
