As a pioneer of commercial green building movement in South Africa I spearheaded the certification of more than 15 buildings in South Africa, under the Greenstar framework of the Green Building Council of South Africa. These buildings are part of a portfolio of over 100 buildings designed within the green building philosophy. With the mainstreaming of green buildings in economic hubs of the continent this philosophy needs to move to the next level - the urban scale in Africa. I am currently developing this urban scale concept which covers a crucial gap between masterplanning and detail implementation of urban developments, particularly in respect of smart cities initiatives.
