Manfred is the Chief Technical Officer at the Green Building Council South Africa (GBCSA), heading up all technical, education and certification related matters since 2010. Manfred has also been responsible for directing various special projects at the GBCSA, including the Cato Manor Green Street, My Green Home, Cost of Green and the Green Lease Toolkit.
Manfred’s qualification is a registered professional electrical engineer, and he has a background as an engineer and a sustainability consultant with the WSP Group, where he worked as a consulting engineer for about 10 years, designing and delivering a range of projects, including various large offices, hotels, hospitals, industrial and retail facilities, and as a sustainability consultant. Manfred jointly headed up WSP’s green building business unit (WSP Green by Design) with Eric Noir for three years, where during his time the WSP Green by Design achieved the first 4 Green Star ratings in South Africa, and established the first building energy and thermal modelling unit in the country.
Manfred also sits on the University of Pretoria’s Construction/Property Studies Advisory Board, as well as being a judge on the ESKOM eta Awards. Manfred has in the past also served on the NBI’s Energy Efficiency Advisory Board and the SANS 10400 Part XA and 204 committees.
