Green Star certified projects excel at SAPOA Innovative Excellence in Property Development Awards

June 28, 2017

The Green Building Council South Africa (GBCSA) heartily congratulates the Green Star certified projects that were recognised for innovative excellence in property development at the SAPOA Convention Gala and Awards Dinner, sponsored by Tongaat Hulett, last week.

These projects were the City of Johannesburg Council Chambers, which was the winner in the Other Developments category; No 5 Silo, which clinched the Overall Green Award; Century City Square, winner of the Mixed Use Developments Category; and Sasol Place, which was recognised as the winner of the Interiors category as well as the overall winner of the Innovative Excellence in Property Development Awards.

The awards celebrate exceptional design quality, green building, originality and efficiency in the commercial, industrial, residential and other property spaces, showcasing some of the country’s most prestigious property developments and refurbishments.

GBCSA CEO Dorah Modise was unreserved in her praise for the projects, noting that these achievements illustrate how sustainability and innovation go hand in hand. “Green building has moved way beyond a few ad hoc features, such as rooftop solar panels or a rainwater collection system. Today, the most innovative and beautiful buildings are also the greenest: meeting present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. These Green Star certified, award-winning projects are shining examples of the best that green building has to offer – world class examples in a South African setting.”
